French-Girl Summer Checklist
Because who doesn't want to feel like she's on the Cote D'Azur, even if she's just "down the shore"?
A French sensibility is good any time of year, but there’s something so chic and understatedly sexy about a Gallic été! Just remember, the classics go a long way, and less is always more.
First up is the non-negotiable striped tee, and this one in black and white works with anything from cotton skirts to cut-offs.
A couple of years ago, on a work trip to Saint Tropez, I became fixated on three French girls buying custom sandals. What stuck with me was their easy beach hair and delicate gold jewelry. They totally would have worn a little medallion like this, layered with a sweet chain like this.
An easy wrap skirt like this feels cool and timeless (and French!). And you never need to worry about wrinkles— just go with it.
Picture these flats in the ideal ballet pink with a loose pair of vintage Levi’s and that striped tee. Perfection! Of course you can’t go wrong with the black, too.
You can’t do a French-girl summer without the right pair of vintage Levi’s.
And of course a classic straw tote is a must. I love this smaller version for every day.
A South-of-France vibe would not be complete without a sweet little frock like this.
These chic, barely there sandals remind me of those three French girls in Saint Tropez (they wore theirs with frayed-hem white jeans).
And speaking of white jeans, I really like this slightly wide pair from Buck Mason.
When it comes to earrings, a little gold hoop is all you need (back to those French girls in Saint-tropez!)
Sometimes a pretty top is just the right thing to add a little romance to those perfect Levi’s.
I’ve noticed that the French love a good hair accessory. I choose this elegant “malachite” barrette to secure a low pony or messy bun.
A simple black maillot is great for sur la plage and aprés too (maybe with that wrap skirt).
Someone recently asked me if espadrilles are “in”. Did they ever go out? I love mine with jeans, but of course they’re good with dresses, skirts, trousers, etc. etc. and the regular strap is easier to deal with than the kind that wrap around the ankle.
And, of course, a fun, slightly retro pair of shades.
Yes please! All of it 💙🤍❤️
