My friend Anne (my bestie since we were 14) founded cool-girl cult brand Martin that was all the rage in the late ‘90s-early aughts (anyone remember it?). Anyway, one of her signature styles was a drape-y twisted tee that you could wear on or off the shoulder that I had on maximum rotation paired with her ridiculously low-waisted jeans—I found this pair online!. I really wish I still those tops, because suddenly it’s a whole thing again, as illustrated in this chock-full-o’-tees post. First up is Cos’ otherwise simple style with good (read forgiving) sleeves and a little knot on the shoulder.
Old Navy’s has a little waist tie and classic stripes that end up going diagonal at the bottom.
This one from Nation starts out normal at the neck, with a fun cross-cross surprise at the waist.
Apiece Apart’s version is shaped more like a feminine top (also in black and on crazy sale).
This one is like a classic Breton shirt on acid (in a very Japanese-designer-y way).
Gap’s version is like when a greaser would roll a pack of cigarettes in his sleeve (but no pack). And it’s now $20.99 (I say get two colors).
A.L.C.’s has a nice little twist at the neck to reveal a peek of clavicle (also comes in black).
And I love the shade of brown here. Plus, organic cotton!
This fun red one has a double twist and also comes in black.
Even Lululemon got in on the action with this number in a cool, jade gray.
And here’s another good white option from Asos.
If anyone wants to have a little fun prior to purchasing a salesclerk once taught me the trick of using a tiny hair tie to gather the fabric on the inside of the garment to make a twist! Obviously this works only for the very simple gathers, but it can give you the look in order to test it out.
As I was ordering the Gap tee in two colors (per your instructions), the price dropped even more!
