Back in the early ‘90s, Anything crochet was my thing. It was my way of adding a little bohemian romance to my usual jeans and Nocona shoe-boot look (I still have a little cardigan somewhere that I scored at a scrimshaw shop in Sag Harbor—Wish I still had those Noconas). Now it seems that open-knit numbers (even bags and shoes) are popping up faster than Jiffy Pop, and I’m all over it. First up, we have Me + Em’s ethereal, cobwebby dress that looks so good over that one-piece, but also you can also throw it over any slip and take it somewhere fancy (perfect piece to pack for a weekend at the beach).
I did internal back flips when I saw these cool open-work shoes—A nice summery alternative to a classic loafer..
I’m so into these groovy pants for the beach (or, if you wear a good boy short or my favorite thin boxers underneath, anywhere else). And here’s the matching top (I would wear that with jeans).
I love The Great’s little pouch to carry out for dinners (also into the natural, but I would ruin it in about five seconds).
Another winner from ME + EM: This pretty shell in a rich espresso brown (also good as a vest over tees and button-downs).
I just think these ‘70s shorts are a really fun beach cover-up (I’d wear them around the house, too).
And now for some sweet flats (anyone else getting old Mia vibes?).
Here’s another pretty dress that I would throw over one of these or these and maybe add some good leather flip-flops.
Mango’s tank gives a nice shot of bright red (also good as a vest over a shirt), and here’s that matching cardigan (both also come in natural).
Want something a little more original than the usual sun hat? I suggest this cute bucket style from Zara.
If you can picture Jane Birkin’s plunging Red Carpet dress from’69, this is pretty much it, only in a richer shade.
And here’s a romantic pair of otherwise classic espadrilles.
And, finally, Zara’s openwork sweater that’s on its way to me as we speak, and that I plan on wearing over Negative Whipped tanks and random tees all summer long.
I’m crochet as well, and can always tell the difference between crochet and knitted items. Thanks for sharing an inspiring selection of cute items. Maybe I’ll crochet a cotton top this summer. Or get the Mango tank!😍
Wow, those nocona boot/shoes bring me back. I had a similar pair (I think from Nine West) and on the first day of orientation at medical school I saw a cool girl wearing the exact same pair as mine. Of course we bonded over that and are still friends today. The secret language of clothes and shoes and boots and style!
